Serum Highlights and Pro-Tips

A high level fly-by of the best highlights and pro tips for sound design in Serum.  Learn how to import audio to make your own wavetables, how to draw and morph between frames in the visual editor, and how to apply warping to bend the wavetable readout.  You’ll see the unison engine, some of the best filter types, the sub oscillator, modulation routings, and macros. Serum Bass Sound Design for 3 Patches

This bass tutorial flexes some of the impressive sound design capabilities of Serum. Each patch is explored step by step, and includes a detailed walkthrough of drag and drop audio to wavetable conversion, creation of wavetables using the visual editor, and one of the synth’s preset wavetable oscillators.

Serum Bass Mayhem with Single Cycle Waveforms

For future bass music, it’s essential to work with evolving, modulated sounds and wavetable synthesis it a great way of doing that. In this tutorial you’ll learn how to make a complex, harmonically rich bass wavetable from single cycle waveforms.

Internal Resampling & Render

Render and Resample are complete game changers as far as sound design and construction of wavetables. They simplify and streamline the process of creating insane sounds, and what you’re going to be able to do with these is have a single oscillator – a single wavetable – that can now sound as complex and processed as the entire output of Serum.

How to Make an Arpeggiator LFO in Serum

Getting Serum’s advanced LFOs to work like an arpeggiator is a bit convoluted, because Serum – like Massive – doesn’t have a dedicated arp. But you don’t need one! In this tutorial, I’ll show you the essential steps to creating an arpeggiator inside of Serum using 2 LFOs’.

Chord Stab in Xfer Serum

In this Serum tutorial, Dan uses a custom wavetable he made by recording him blowing into a bottle to create a nice airy timbre. He then applies filtering to get a nice pluck sound with an envelope, and fills out the sound with the noise oscillator. Completing the sound are Serum’s effects: Dimension Expander, Chorus, some EQ notching, and a plate algorithm in the Reverb effect.
